What better way to kick off the new year then a week long speed running marathon?! Starting January 4th Awesome Games Done Quick 2021 gets underway, sadly all remote once again as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt the world. The event is usually held in Minnesota twice a year and SGDQ (the first to be done remotely) the vibe and atmosphere of the speedruns was certainly affected. There’s really no viable way to replace a couple of hundred spectators chanting and cheering with a couple of people in front of their home webcams, but the team have done everything they can to keep the event going. One thing is for sure, I’m absolutely amazing they they’ve been able to keep the week long stream smooth despite coordinating 10’s of speedrunners at home rather then their own equipment in one location. Sadly (for me) the best runs are races which aren’t really possible remotely.
These guys are amazing and while their rarely breaking any records you’ll not find a bigger, better, or more fun speed running and game-breaking exploit exhibition anywhere. It’s also a marathon and caters for games on pretty much any platform and speedrun category; All for an amazing cause (charity!).
