Cookie Policy

Last updated: 20 February 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how Playtopia ("we", "us", "our") uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on playtopia.com.au (the "Platform").

The use of cookies involves the collection of personal information and is governed by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). While Australia does not currently have specific cookie consent legislation equivalent to the EU's ePrivacy Directive, we are committed to transparency and giving you meaningful control over how your data is used.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website when you visit it. They are widely used to make websites work, improve efficiency, and provide information to the site operator.

Similar technologies — such as local storage, session storage, and pixel tags — serve related purposes and are also covered by this policy.

2. Cookies We Use

We use the following categories of cookies:

Strictly NecessaryAlways active

These cookies are essential for the Platform to function. They include session management (keeping you logged in), security tokens, and load-balancing cookies. The Platform cannot work properly without these and they cannot be disabled.

Examples: Authentication session token, CSRF protection token, Load balancer affinity

FunctionalCan be declined

These cookies remember your preferences and settings to provide a more personalised experience.

Examples: Preferred language or theme, Notification preferences, Cookie consent choice (playtopia-cookie-consent)

AnalyticsCan be declined

These cookies help us understand how visitors use the Platform so we can improve it. All data is aggregated and anonymised where possible.

Examples: Pages visited, Time spent on pages, Errors encountered

Third-Party / Embedded ContentCan be declined

Some features embed third-party content (e.g. YouTube videos, Discord widgets). These third parties may set their own cookies when their content is loaded. We do not control these cookies and encourage you to review the privacy policies of those third parties.

Examples: YouTube player cookies, Discord widget, Steam authentication

4. How to Control Cookies

You have several options for managing cookies:

  • Browser settings: Most browsers allow you to view, delete, and block cookies. Visit your browser's help documentation for instructions (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Safari). Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent the Platform from functioning correctly.
  • Our consent banner: When you first visit, you can accept or decline non-essential cookies via our banner. Your choice is stored in localStorage under playtopia-cookie-consent.
  • Opt-out tools: For analytics opt-outs, you may also use the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out tool.

5. Do Not Track

Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. We currently do not alter our data collection practices in response to DNT signals, as there is no universally accepted standard for how to respond to them. We will update this policy if a standard is established.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy as we add new features or as laws and best practices evolve. We will post the updated policy with a revised date. Continued use of the Platform after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

7. Contact

For questions about our use of cookies or your personal information, contact our Privacy Officer at privacy@playtopia.com.au.

For broader privacy concerns, you may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au.
