Xbox unveils XP, a new division built around its franchises

Xbox has launched XP, a new division meant to grow its franchises outside of games themselves: film and TV, merchandise, live events and partnerships. It's led by new president Kayleen Walters, who spent 13 years at Lucasfilm and helped grow Minecraft past 425 million units sold. Xbox's Matthew Ball says games stay "at the center of these franchises," with XP acting as a partner to the studios rather than replacing them.

Two leadership changes come with the new XP division

Alongside XP, Xbox named Maria Angelidou-Smith as the new CEO of Mojang and Minecraft, starting October 19. She's coming off roles at Meta, where she ran Facebook Groups for 1.8 billion monthly users, plus stints at Reddit and Personio. Xbox says it wanted someone technical who still understands Minecraft's community first.

Monster Hunter Stories 3 heads to Xbox PC on November 18

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is coming to Xbox on PC on November 18, with Xbox Play Anywhere support carrying saves and achievements between Xbox Series X|S, Windows 11 and compatible handhelds. The turn based RPG is already out on console, and a free trial, with progress that carries over, lands October 22-25 alongside the series' 10th anniversary.

Indie Selects for October goes heavy on horror

Xbox's weekly Indie Selects hub has its October picks up, six games themed around exploring strange worlds: Mortal Shell II, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, Mewgenics, The Sinking City 2, Woodo and Lou's Lagoon. The Sinking City 2, a Lovecraftian survival horror set in a flooded 1929 Arkham, is discounted from $49.99 to $39.99 as part of the spotlight.
